“What is a Sister?” a six-year-old girl asked
her father after meeting her two aunts who are Sisters of
St. Joseph. “What can I say?” he thought. “They
no longer wear the long black and white habits with the
crucifix and the big rosary beads. Nor do these two sisters
of mine who are also ‘Sisters’ teach and nurse
as they and most of the members of their Order used to do.”
So after thinking for a while he said, “Well, a Sister
is someone who gives her life to God, and who tries to help
people to know about God and to live good lives.”
The young girl seemed satisfied and even somewhat thoughtful
with this response.
In our world in which there is a constant quest for deeper
meaning and a growing interest in seeking it in the spiritual
dimension of life, you yourself may even have asked the
same question as this curious child. Who are these women
who live in community, commit their lives to God through
public vows, and strive to do all they can to make the world
a more human place for everyone?
We invite you now to journey with us through these pages
of our Internet site in which we share with you our story
and our lives. |
